VIKINGS SELECT 12 PLAYERS AT GMHL DRAFT

BRIGHTON — The Brighton Vikings organization selected 12 players at Wednesday's GMHL Draft, including eight players from within a half hour of the Municipality of Brighton.

"We want our team to represent the region, and I know a lot of these kids as good players and people," said Vikings head coach Dennis Sicard. "We feel that our draft sets us up well for September and for the future — and can't wait to see some of these players in the lineup on opening night."

Brechyn Aird, a 2010-born blueliner from Cobourg, was the team's first-ever draft choice at 17th overall in round one; Brighton product AJ Peeters was selected in round two and could become the first hometown player to suit up for the Vikings.

Primarily drafting local players known to Coach Sicard, the Vikings also added two players with prior junior experience in Ajax's Armando Rojo-Bolton — who spent last season in the NOJHL with Blind River — and American forward Mason Bryant, most recently of the NA3HL's Binghamton Buzz.
